COMMAS EXERCISE #1 
 
1. Persistent maintenance is important to prolonging the life of your vehicle, and with the right 
maintenance a vehicle can run for hundreds of thousands of miles 
 
2. With cars and trucks, changing the oil every three thousand miles can really make a difference, yet 
many professionals will tell you to wait longer. 
 
3. Inspecting fluid levels in your vehicle is also important, because fluids are the life blood of your vehicle. 
 
4. Persistent maintenance helps to extend your vehicles life, and it can help to save yours. 
 
5. For example, changing your wiper blades semiannually can ensure your visibility, since driving in 
heavy rain or snow can quickly lead to limited visibility 
 
6. Making sure exterior lights are functioning correctly can help too, because your signals help to notify 
drivers of your intentions to change lanes, turn, etc. 
 
7. Inflating your tires to the proper pressure can help as well and being aware of your tire's tread can help 
to improve gas mileage and traction on the road. 
 
8. Nothing is worse than hitting a heavy patch of water or fresh oil on the road, so make sure you have 
enough tread on your tires. 
 
9. Check your coolant levels and be aware of your engine temperature. 
 
10. A relatively normal engine temperature maybe somewhere towards the middle of the gauge, but the 
gauge can read lower if your engine is healthy (towards the cooler part of the continuum).  
 
11. Another important maintenance consideration for cars is their spark plugs and belts, so make sure 
your  spark plugs and belts are in good working condition. 
 
12. Spark plugs are relatively mundane parts of the vehicle, but an old spark plug may contribute to 
misfires in the engine and loss of performance. 
 
13. Belts should always be in good working order, or your car may stop running. 
 
14. Belts help to regulate power in the engine, and belts can help you to have other services such as air 
conditioning. 
 
15. Finally, you want to make sure you keep track of maintenance and repairs, so try to keep a journal or 
a ledger with all of the regular maintenance and mileage written in a permanent form. 
 
16. Keeping track of regular maintenance can help you to keep your vehicle in good shape, and tracking 
the maintenance may help you to anticipate costs of repairs.
